This set was issued in two series and contains a total of 353 cards, Series 1 (#1-300) and Series 2 (#301-353). It notably marks the beginning of an era where multiple competing licensed brands sold basketball cards in the same season.

The Hoops All-Star panels were limited to a production of 15,000 sets, the 24-card set was inserted in the All-Star Game program via four 6-panel cards.

Hoops also issued cards for use as business cards to certain broadcasters this year. Reportedly between 200 and 1000 cards were printed of each announcer. Reportedly Rick Barry signed 100 of his cards for sale into the organized hobby.
